Has any identifying factor impacted your career? As a younger new female employee with English as a second language, I felt that I had to do extra to prove my worth in the agriculture industry. On the other hand, because of my veteran status, I was more confident.
Describe the perception of the agricultural industry today. Fast-changing, diverse, challenging
For inclusion, what areas is agriculture lagging in most? Where are you seeing progress? I still see that automation/ digital is not there yet, although I see the effort that the industry is making to get there. Smaller farmers like my family in the Philippines [are] still struggling to do anything automated due to lack of budget.
How can diversity be better encouraged? We need to continue promoting diversity and inclusion by providing opportunities to learn (through training and experience) to all employees. Leadership must encourage us to work through our insecurities.
We need to realize that everyone brings something to the table. Everyone has a role to play and a chance to contribute.
