GPS Network- http://www.gpsnetwork.org/ - The GPS Network is an NEA Great Public Schools site, where teachers and paraeducators can collaborate, download(and upload) lessons and resources, find professional learning events (webinars and Google hangouts), and lots more. More information on when Vermont Teachers can access this library as part of the State's committment to supporting teachers implementing the Common Core is coming shortly.
SBAC Content Specifications for Mathematics 3-8 - This is the July 2015 version. This is a useful tool when identifying majort topics for each grade. Beginning on page 69 is a very clear chart for grades 3-8. The chart identifies the major topics (Hi) and the additional/supporting standards (Lo). When planning for the year, teachers will want to make sure that enough time is given to the major topics so students will have ample opportunity to construct deep understanding of the content.

Mathematics Assessment Project- Assessing 21st Century Math - The Mathematics Assessment Program (MAP) aims to bring to life the Common Core State Standards (CCSSM) in a way that will help teachers and their students turn their aspirations for achieving them into classroom realities. MAP is a collaboration between the University of California, Berkeley and the Shell Center team at the University of Nottingham, with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The team works with the Silicon Valley Mathematics Initiative and school systems across the US and UK to develop improved assessment. It looks like it has lessons for grades 6- high school.
Illustrative Mathematics: Educators collaborate at illustrativemathematics.org, sharing carefully vetted resources for teachers and teacher leaders to give our children an understanding of mathematics and skill in using it. We provide expert guidance to states, districts, curriculum writers, and assessment writers working to improve mathematics education. Educators can download and adapt materials for their class. Review terms of use for proper credit.
Youcubed at Stanford University – This website has a some excellent free activities and other resources including articles on mindset, number sense, depth not speed and math apps. Select the "task" button on the menu bar for activities aligned to CCSS concepts and practices. http://www.youcubed.org

National Science Teachers Association - The NSTA is an excellent organization with a monthly magazine. For teachers of science, a membership is worth the expense, wtih many lesson plans and interesting articles.
The NSTA Learning Center- The NSTA Learning Center has a link to free resources for elementary, middle school, high school, and college. There is a lot in this site, so if you are looking for lessons or resources on a specific content area, check here first.
AAAS Science Netlinks - This site has some excellent lessons and a good search feature to help you find them. For those of you who have AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science) books, this is a newly updated site. You will also find videos (for specific grade levels), and if you click the science news link, you will find a image of the day and a mystery image contest!
Progressive Science Institute - PSI is open source lessons and curriculum from k-12. As you develop your lessons and units, check out the lessons that are already developed! They include live links, questions that students can answer and discuss as they construct meaning of concepts, etc.
Teach Engineering - teachengineering.com - Free online resouces and activities PK-12 using every day items. Featured at the NSTA Conference 2021.
Ambitious Science Teaching - "Great teaching can be learned. This web site provides a vision of ambitious science instruction for elementary, middle school and high school classrooms. Ambitious teaching deliberately aims to support students of all backgrounds to deeply understand science ideas, participate in the activities of the discipline, and solve authentic problems."
Social Studies
The Stock Market Game is an engaging simulation experience of the stock market. Art Wolf, from the University of Vermont, is Vermont's contact for this game, which is appropriate for many subject areas including social studies, math, economics, after school programs, etc. To find out more about the Stock Market Game, visit there website at www.stockmarketgame.org. Hildene Lincoln Essay Competition - Every year, Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home runs the Lincoln Essay Competition for 8th graders throughout Vermont. First place winners receive $1000, second place $750, third place $500, and honorable mentions $200. The deadline for submissions is Lincoln’s birthday, February 12, 2016. This year’s topic: Why do you think racism persists in America: what factors contribute to its persistence and how can these factors be addressed in order to move the country toward a more perfect union? National Council for the Social Studies - Founded in 1921, National Council for the Social Studies is the largest professional association in the country devoted solely to social studies education. NCSS engages and supports educators in strengthening and advocating social studies. With members in all the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and 69 foreign countries, NCSS serves as an umbrella organization for elementary, secondary, and college teachers of history, civics, geography, economics, political science, sociology, psychology, anthropology, and law-related education. The NCSS membership represents K-12 classroom teachers, college and university faculty members, curriculum designers and specialists, social studies supervisors, and leaders in the various disciplines that constitute the social studies. College, Career & Civic Life - C3 Framework for Social Studies State Standards - As a core area in the K-12 curriculum, social studies prepares students for their postsecondary futures, including the disciplinary practices and literacies needed for college-level work in social studies academic courses, and the critical thinking, problem solving, and collaborative skills needed for the workplace. The C3 Framework encourages the development of state social studies standards that support students in learning to be actively engaged in civic life. Engagement in civic life requires knowledge and experience; children learn to be citizens by working individually and together as citizens. An essential element of social studies education, therefore, is experiential—practicing the arts and habits of civic life.
Vermont Humanities Council - A statewide nonprofit organization founded in 1974, the Vermont Humanities Council strives to make Vermont a state in which every individual reads, participates in public affairs, and continues to learn throughout life. A state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, VHC believes that engagement with the world of ideas, in interaction with others, contributes uniquely to richer lives, stronger communities, a more humane society, and a better world. The Vermont Humanities Council has developed a broad range of programs that serve Vermonters of all ages and backgrounds. In 2016 VHC sponsored humanities events in 127 Vermont communities, including towns in each of Vermont’s 14 counties. Programs include book discussions, speaker events, conferences, a statewide one-book community reading program, and a grants program that supports humanities projects of other nonprofit organizations.
Five Themes of Geography - Location, Place, Human-Environment Interaction, Movement, and Region: ThoughtCo Site, World Atlas Site, The Five Themes of Geography were meant to define and organize the subjects of geographic study for educational decision-makers and curriculum developers. The guidelines provided a blueprint for the teaching and learning of geography and informed the writing of the 1994 National Geography Standards. While the five themes are still used in some introductory geography texts, essential geography content knowledge for students is best described in the National Geography Standards, which were updated in 2012.
