ESP Conference 2023: Fostering Resilient and Inclusive Communities
Who: open and free of charge to all Vermont-NEA ESP (Education Support Professional) members
When: Friday, March 10, 2023 from 7:30 - 3:00
Where: Killington Grand Hotel Resort & Conference Center
What: Registration is now open for this exciting professional development event designed specifically for Education Support Professionals. Attendance is completely free for Vermont-NEA members, and professional development certificates will be offered. Breakfast, lunch and snacks included!
In addition to a fantastic offering of breakout sessions, we are thrilled to welcome Ainika Luna as our keynote speaker. Ainika is the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion coach at Hinesburg Elementary School where she uses her voice to advocate for the underrepresented and is committed to building a culture of respect where students and adults are safe to express their identities free of discrimination and where diversity is a strength and not an obstacle. At lunch we hear from, and honor, our 2023 Vermont-NEA ESP of the Year, Gloria Mantagaris of Champlain Valley EA. Gloria is a strong local, state, and national leader who has worked with districts in developing Paraeducator Mentoring Programs.

22-23 educator resilience series by Juliette Longchamp
The past few years have been challenging for Educators in so many ways. As we look at our chosen professions within schools, being emotionally healthy is critical for us to do our best work, whether it is teaching, working in the lunchroom, driving the bus, working with special needs students, etc. This series will provide a supportive group to discuss and learn how to ground ourselves in what is important and shift our mindsets to keep our emotional self healthy.
The first 45 participants to sign up (who are VTNEA members) will receive a copy of Onward: Cultivating Emotional Resilience in Education by Elena Aguilar.
All meetings will be on Wednesdays from 7-8 pm on zoom. Please register only if you can commit to nearly all the sessions.

National Board Certification - New Candidates for 22-23
National Board Certification is the most respected professional certification available in education and provides numerous benefits to teachers, students and schools. It was designed to develop, retain and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide. While teacher licensure systems set the basic requirements to teach in each state, completion of National Board Certification signifies that teachers have voluntarily gone much further. NBCTs have developed and demonstrated the advanced knowledge, skills and practices required of an outstanding educator. Standards for each content area and developmental level are created by teachers, for teachers.

National Board Certification - Renewal Candidates (MOC)
Barbie Collette, NBCT, will be facilitating the MOC Group this year. The Registration form with dates can be found here. Please express your interest in MOC here. The MOC Group will meet six Mondays throughout the school year from 4:30-6:30 pm on Zoom.
Professionalism and Professional Boundaries Workshop (remote)
Professional Boundaries and Social Networking for School Employees: This popular Vermont-NEA workshop explores professional boundaries educators need in order to achieve the environment that promotes the strongest student learning. Vermont-NEA staff will discuss boundaries in three categories: Physical, Emotional, and Knowledge. The workshop is grounded in the Model Code of Ethics for Educators and its application in schools. This is a discussion-based workshop, allowing educators to explore issues with each other.

Independent Learning through NEA Micro-Credentials
NEA has entered the micro-credential world, rolling out Micro-Credentials in many interesting topics. To look at the offerings, start an account at nea.certificationbank.com/vermont. Vermont-NEA will provide PD Certificates for each microcredential when you have successfully completed them. Each micro-credential should take approximately 15 hours, however, this depends on the background knowledge each participant has on the subject. Visit the Micro-credential page for more information here. Castleton Credit (one credit per successful completion of a micro-credential) may be awarded at the cost of $125 per credit. This is a great way for an educator to earn credit hours for salary advancement.
