Teacher Licensing Updates
License renewal continues to go through the rulemaking process. Hopefully, this process will be completed in January, and educators with a license expiration date of June 2015 can complete the process. When the rulemaking process is completed, the following will need to be completed for renewal for a Level 2 license.
- Verification of credits/hours or professional learning. Since your license was a 7-year license, you will need to show evidence of 9 credit hours/135 hours or professional learning. At least 3 credits (45 hours) need to be in your certification field (math, science, etc.), while the remaining can be in other educational areas. If you hold multiple endorsements, you will need to have 3 credits/45 hours in those fields as well. Documentation needs to be uploaded into ALiS, the online licensing system. If you have not registered, you can do so here. All educators are encouraged to do this, since you can upload verification anytime.
- Self-Assessment on the InTASC Progressions. The InTASC Learning Progressions is a resource for ongoing teacher development, which describe the increasing complexity and sophistication of teaching practice for each of ten core standards across three developmental levels. To renew, educators will need to complete a self-assessment, which is on paper, and sign a verification form stating you did this. The self-assessment is confidential and should help educators think about next goals in their teaching practice.
New licenses will be good for five years. The requirements to renew this license will include documenting 6 credits/90 hours of professional learning and completing the Learning Progressions self-assessment verification form. Note that the cost of the license will be proportionately less since it is good for only 5 years.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact Juliette Longchamp ([email protected]). We hope this streamlined process will be less stressful and more meaningful to Vermont Educators.
